Currently Mustang offers Skid Steer Loaders, Compact Mini Excavators, Telescopic Handlers, Track Loaders and All Wheel Steer Loaders. Mustang also offers a wide range of compact construction equipment. Mustang also distributes products in North America and worldwide to more than 39 countries. In 1965 their first 25 Mustang skid steer loaders were built; these first units were designated as the Owatonna Mustang Series 1000 because at the time the company was called Owatonna Manufacturing Company, or OMC, of Owatonna Minnesota. These skid steer loaders were among the first ever manufactured in the United States at the time. In fact, the Mustang machine was built long before the term -- skid steer -- was coined. The original 25 Mustang units were sold as a -- self propelled four wheel drive unit -- and were recognized by their lime green and red color scheme.Since then, Mustang has developed more than 40 different models of skid steer loaders, and sold throughout the world. Some of Mustang Skid Steer Loader models include 940, 940E, 960, 2022, 2032, 2040, 2042, 2044, 2050, 2054, 2060, 2066, 2070, 2074, 2076, 2086, 2095, 2099, 2105 and 2109.In 1997 Mustang Manufacturing Company was acquired by Gehl Company.About GehlGehl is a manufacturer of compact equipment used worldwide in the construction and agricultural industries. Founded in 1859, the Company is headquartered in West Bend, Wisconsin. The Company markets its products under the Gehl and Mustang brands.Gehl was technically founded in 1859, when Louis Lucas opened an iron foundry Wisconsin. Lucas established his business in order to manufacture plows and cultivators, and to repair worn out farm implements. As farming grew in the Midwest, locals came to rely heavily on the services provided by Lucas and his company.By 1880, Lucas was joined by M. Silberzahn, a German immigrant and blacksmith. The two partners came up with one of the most important innovations in agricultural machinery during the late 19th century called the Hexelbank; this unit was a feed cutter that replaced the need to chop livestock feed by hand. The popularity of the hand cranked Hexelbank grew quickly and was soon used not only for sugar beet crops but for other root dwelling crops as well.John W. Gehl acquired part interest in the firm of Lucas and Silberzahn in 1902. One year later Gehl, who had been raised on a homestead in Wisconsin, invited brothers Mike, Henry, and Nick to join him. Together, they purchased all the assets of Lucas and Silberzahn. By 1904, the Gehl Brothers Manufacturing Company was producing a wide range of basic farm tools along with the extremely profitable Hexelbank. Over the next two years, they prospered and the band of brothers began to take on manufacturing of more innovative farm equipment. Finally In 1970, Gehl decided to enter the construction equipment industry and developed its very own skid steer loader. This skid steer loader had unique controls that enabled the operator to run all the necessary functions with their hands; this feature became very popular within the construction industry. By 1973, the company made the decision to sell its skid loaders in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, thus completing their worldwide expansion.Gehl has manufactured equipment lines toward two principal markets worldwide: agricultural and light industrial construction applications. Gehl has been producing agricultural implements for over 149 years. Gehl is known as the leading non-tractor manufacturer of agricultural equipment in North America, creating implements for the farm equipment industry. In 1986, Gehl got into the light construction equipment business by establishing a construction sales division. Gehl now caters to small contractors, sub-contractors and owner-operators with equipment for handling dirt, heavy lifting and paving. In 1991 Gehl focused its efforts through Gehl International, a division they formed specifically to capitalize on the growing worldwide equipment business. Today, Gehl continues to expand in markets for both agricultural and construction equipment. Their area of compact construction equipment includes skid steer loaders, compact track loaders, all wheel steer loaders, compact mini excavators, telescopic material handlers, and asphalt paving equipment. In September 2008, Gehl announced an agreement to be acquired by Manitou BF S.A., its largest shareholder. Manitou is a manufacturer and distributor of material handling equipment based in France. This acquisition marks the next step in the evolution of Gehl toward their goal of becoming a player in the global compact equipment marketplace. P.S.
